CGWB hosts Interaction Program on Ground Water related issues at Devika Ghat Udhampur

 

UDHAMPUR : Central Ground Water Board, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti Jammu today conducted Nadi Utsav and Public Interaction programme (PIP) on the theme “Ground Water Related issues in Udhampur district’ at Devika Ghat, Udhampur.

Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Kanta Devi was the chief guest, while President Municipal Council, Udhampur Dr. Jogeshwar Gupta was the guest of honour on the occasion.

The programme was aimed to make aware the departments like Jal Shakti (PHE), Horticulture, Agriculture, Municipal Council and Urban Environment Engineering Department about the Groundwater related issues of the district and their importance.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the Central Ground Water Board and suggested organising more such programmes at Panchayat level to create awareness among the masses in near future.

The President MC also spoke on the occasion and raised the issue of decreasing flow in the Devika River and reducing the sustainability of tube wells and sought technical assistance from the Central Ground Water Board for the rejuvenation of the river.

M. L. Angurala, Regional Director, CGWB, NWHR Jammu addressing the gathering emphasised upon the Ground water issues, water conservation and proper management of waste water as it may lead to the contamination of groundwater.

The lectures have been designed to cover all the aspects of GroundWater Issues & Management. Lectures on Occurrence & Movement of Groundwater, Hydrogeological Cycle and Water Management, Water for Life, Ground water Quality sampling, were delivered in the above programme also.
