Director Agriculture Kashmir, inaugurates sale of Vegetable seedlings at Kitchen Garden, Lal Mandi
SRINAGAR : The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today inaugurated the distribution of Onion Vegetable seedlings at Kitchen Garden Lal Mandi.
While interacting with the vegetable growers and kitchen garden lovers, the Director said the Department is committed to provide quality seedling material to the vegetable growers so that they could use the land resources available to them and will contribute to the overall vegetable production.
He said kitchen gardening is becoming a healthy trend in urban agriculture and the people are adopting it nowadays with open arms. He said the Department is implementing a plan where seedlings of different vegetable crops would be made available to the farmers round the year and this initiative has been started in all the districts of Kashmir Division.
The Director said the kitchen gardening is a multi dimensional venture where on one hand the vegetables grown in kitchen gardens are mostly organic because people do not use chemical fertilizers in their kitchen gardens and on the other hand it promotes agriculture among the young generations and students.
During the inauguration of today’s sale, the Director was accompanied by Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Farooq Ahmad Shah, Joint Director Agriculture Extension Sheikh Shahid Iqbal, Seed Production Officer Kashmir and other senior officers of the Department.
