‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain’ should be implemented effectively in Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal : Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that effective implementation of “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” in all districts of Madhya Pradesh should be ensured. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, started this campaign on World Water Day and said that India’s Aatm-Nirbhar is dependent on water resources and water connectivity. Our ancestors left water for us, now it is our responsibility to conserve water for generations to come. Most of the rainwater flows off in India. The more rainwater we save, the less will be our dependence on groundwater. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that on the call of the Prime Minister, we should make every effort to collect rainwater.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that under the programme “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain”, the rainwater harvesting campaign will be conducted in rural and urban areas across the country and its slogan will be ‘collect rainwater wherever it falls, whenever it falls’.
Revive small rivers and water sources
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that encroachments on and around water structures should be removed and after that the work of repairing and renovating them should be undertaken. Small rivers and water sources should be revived with the participation of the community.
Make and implement an action plan for water conservation
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that an action plan for water conservation should be implemented on the basis of the nature of water sources and land available in the district. G.I.S. mapping of all water structures of the state should be done and their lists should be prepared district-wise.
Jal Shakti Kendras at district headquarters
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that Jal Shakti Kendras should be established at the district headquarters. These kendras will act as centre for information, awareness and knowledge about water conservation and augmentation.
G.I.S. based watershed development plan for all gram panchayats
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that watershed development should be undertaken for water conservation under MNREGA and a G.I.S.-based watershed development plan should be prepared for all gram panchayats.
Training of women for water testing
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that for the first time in the country after independence, the government is seriously working on water testing. During the Covid epidemic in the country, 4.5 lakh women were trained for testing water. In this campaign of water testing, the sisters and daughters living in the villages are being included. Effective action should also be taken in this direction in the state.

Treatment of catchment areas should be done through tree plantation etc.
The grant received from the Finance Commission should be utilised as per the requirement in water conservation works at the Gram Panchayat level.
Jal Shakti Abhiyan should be linked with the 75th anniversary of the independence of the country.
Rooftop rainwater harvesting should be arranged in the government buildings of the district such as Anganwadi buildings, Panchayat Bhawans, school buildings, health centres etc.
Water pledge should be taken at every village and gram panchayat level and Jal Shakti Abhiyan should be widely publicized.
