MY YOUTH MY PRIDE activities galore continues across J&K UT

JAMMU : A series of sports events were today organized across the union territory of J&K under the aegis of My Youth My Pride imitative.

The Government High School Reasi hosted Hockey and Gymnastics events in which 150 students of different classes participated. Principal of the school Om Prakash Dogra presided over the function as the chief guest. While interacting with the officials of the organizing body Sports Council, Om Prakash appreciated the programme of reaching out to schools in far flung areas and scouting the talent.

In the other events held in the Jammu division, competitions in the disciplines of Archery, Skating, Volleyball are in progress in M.A Stadium Jammu, while Handball and Kho-Kho was in progress in Kathua. The Table Tennis event is slated to be held in sports stadium Samba and events in the Football will be held in sports stadiums of Udhampur and Rajouri while Boxing and Kabaddi events in Rajouri and Poonch were in progress when reports last came in.

The Baramulla district Yogasana championship was held in Rafiabad Public School Dangiwacha. The event was organized by the district unit of J&K Yogasana Sports Association in association with J&K Sports Council under the My Youth My Pride programme. More than 150 participants comprising boys and girls drawn from the different educational institutions of the district competed in different categories.

The event was supervised by Zubaida Lateef Joint Secretary District Srinagar Yogasana Sports Association along with Zarka Fayaz and Sania Amin.

Competitions for the categories of sub junior, junior and senior were held. Reyan and Faheem and Mustaqeem bagged gold,silver and bronze respectively in sub junior category while Amir Shafkat and Afnan were standout performers in junior boys category. In senior boys category Sahil emerged as the best player and in sub junior girls Aaliya, Hurmat and Madiha bagged three respective medals. Uzma, Raziya and Suriya were three position holders in the junior girls category while the senior girls title went to Shabnam.

The best performers of the event have been selected for the upcoming UT level Yogasana Championship.

Mohammad Ashraf Lone, Chairman of Rafiabad Public School presided over the function as chief guest while as social activist and lecturer at GHSS Dangiwacha along with Firdausa from Murtaza Sports Academy were guest of honour on the occasion.

Meanwhile the 2nd edition of Bandipora Cricket Cup was won by BCC Bandipora defeating their opponents Rising Star by 6 wickets. Batting earlier Rising Stars posted a challenging total of 174 runs. BCC stumbled early in the chase with their 3 batters back in the hut when the team score was just 21 runs. The flamboyant allrounder and captain of the team Saleem Jehangir steered the innings and remained unbeaten on 106 thus helping BCC to scale the target with 6 wickets in hand. Saleem earned man of the match and player of the tournament. Nuzhat Farooq Sports Officer, J&K Sports Council said that all the sports facilities across J&K have been kept at the disposal of sportspersons and earlier impediments for the allotment of grounds or indoor halls have been removed on the directions of Secretary Sports Council. Sports Council has tied up with many sports bodies and organizations to increase the base of sports activities in J&K so as to play a vital role in curbing the menace of drug and keep youth away from other anti-social activities.
