RWTH Aachen University Welcomes Approximately 9,000 First Semester Students, Marking a Strong Start
RWTH Aachen University has 8,976 students in their first semester in the current semester 2023/24. This means that the number of first-semester students is slightly down on the previous winter semester, but still at a consistently high level. For the winter semester 2022/23, 9,538 students had enrolled for their first semester. This means that 45,284 students are currently enrolled at RWTH. A year ago, there were 47,078. 15,112 of the 45,284 are women, which corresponds to 33%.
The number of international students continues to rise. 14,437 students from 141 countries contribute to the cultural diversity of the University. In the previous year, the figure was 14,150, with the proportion of international students reaching its highest level to date at 32%. Most of the international students come from China (3,447 students), followed by India (2,022 students) and Turkey (1,294 students).
With 11,024 students, 1,824 of whom are in their first semester, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is the largest faculty at RWTH Aachen University, followed by the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences with 10,116 students.
5,825 first semester students (65 percent) live in the Aachen city region.
