Samba: JKAACL organises music, dance programme at Ramgarh

SAMBA : The Sub Office Kathua of Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) and the District Information Centre Samba organised a music and dance programme at Ramgarh today.

Over 100 artists performed at the event which was attended by a large audience. Naib Sarpanch, Keso Manhasan, Manjeet Kaur was the chief guest while Ramesh Singh Namardar Cheak Babral was the guest of honour at the occasion.

Manjeet Kaur praised the performers for their presentations and their effort for promoting and preserving the art and culture of Jammu region. The highlight of the programme was a performance of ‘Hern’ by CD Magotra & Party. Hern is a traditional theatre form.

The programme was conducted under the direction of Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Bharat Singh. It started with a performance by Ravi Sharma & Party followed by performances of Dogri songs by RL Shugal & Party and Dogri folk by Subash Chander & Party. There were also performances by Amit Kumar & Party and a Nukkad Show by Hardeep Dance Group. The event concluded with a performance by Mohammad Rafiq and Party.

The performance featured a group of folk dancers in traditional attire, local drum players and characters such as ‘Raja’, ‘Wazir’, ‘Sadhu’ and a caretaker of Hern. The group moved from house to house in a carnival-like fashion, reflecting on the socio-economic and political state of the area through satirical acts.

The programme was conducted by Ashok Kumar Sharma and coordinated by Shoket Naseem.
