Ural Federal University: University Athletes Took First and Fifth Places in Armwrestling Competitions

Vladimir Shapochkin, a graduate of Ural Federal University, won gold at the All-Russian Armwrestling Tournament “Baltic Cup”. He won first place in both arms and in dual competition in the weight category of 65 kg. Anastasia Shchukina, a student of the Ural Federal University Institute of Chemistry and Technology, took fifth place in the same competition (in both arms and dual competition).

“Vladimir Shapochkin has been training with us for six years, since his first year. He is now our graduate, but he continues to train and represent the university at competitions. Anastasia has been training with us for three years, also since her first year. She works hard, she does her best, she takes part in competitions, goes to the Russian championships. Every year she sees her progress. Last year, for example, she took eighth place at the “Baltic Cup”, says Valery Filin, Ural Federal University armwrestling coach.

Anastasia, Vladimir and four more athletes will represent the university at the regional armwrestling competition. Based on the results of the regional championship and tournament, teams will be formed to represent the region in the Ural Federal District. Competitions in the Ural Federal District are scheduled for November.

The All-Russian Armwrestling Tournament “Baltic Cup” was held on October 6-11 in Saint Petersburg. 81 athletes from 22 regions of Russia took part in it. In total there were 66 men and 15 women.
