Winter Camp for Rural Communities G-20 themed event with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

Aligarh : The department of Social Work organised a week long winter camp for rural communities as part of the G-20 themed event and in spirit with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. This rural camp was focused on Education, Environment, Health and Hygiene and was organized in Village Mirzapur, which is an adopted village of AMU under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.

Health Camp, Environment Awareness, Meetings on Cleanliness and Personal Hygiene Nukkad Natak , Awareness program on Financial Literacy in collaboration with SEBI, Community Mobilisation and Awareness Programs on Government Welfare Schemes were the main features.

On 15th March, the winter camp was inaugurated by Prof Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairperson, Department of Social Work, along with other faculty members, village resource persons, Pradhan and community members, and MSW previous and final year students.
The MSW students were then oriented, and tasks for the day were assigned to them for establishing rapport with community members and mapping the community’s social resources.

The valedictory session was held on 21st March to celebrate World Social Work Day with this year’s theme “Respecting diversity through joint social action” at Village Mirzapur.

In his presidential remark Prof Mirza Asmer Beg, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences said such camps bring positive changes with the help of interventions and theoretical knowledge.

Chief Guest on the occasion Controller Examination Dr Mujib Ullah Zuberi, remarked that the department is doing a good work through innovation and meaningful participation in nation-building by empowering communities, promoting social cohesion and respect for diversity.

Guest of Honour, Public Relation Officer Mr Omar S Peerzada emphasized to strengthen human relationships and promote social justice for marginalized communities and equip students with tools and techniques of social work for the enhancement of their employability skills.

In his welcome note Chairman of the department Prof Khan said the objective of the camp was for the welfare and development of the Village Mirzapur.

A brief report of the camp was discussed by Dr Qurratul Aein Ali and the thematic skit presentation was performed by postgraduate students of Social Work. Dr Shyna Saif, Mr Mohd Uzair and Dr Sameera Khanam distributed the certificates to the students.

During vote of thanks Dr Md Tahir, urged the people of Mirzapur to send their children to school for their overall development and sincere progress in life. The proceedings were compered by Dr Mohd Arif Khan.
