Annual Fest of Begum Sultan Jahan Hall concludes

ALIGARH : The annual function of the Begum Sultan Jahan Hall, Aligarh Muslim University, “Intisaar”, which ran through the last several days, culminated with the gala dinner on March 18.

Addressing the glittering function, the chief guest, AMU Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS) discussed the importance of hard work, perseverance and time management in student life. He said students in AMU have the best kind of facilities and they should utilize them to enhance their personality and achieve excellence and success in life.

The guest of honour, AMU Proctor, Prof. Waseem Ali and special guests Prof. Naima Khatoon (Principal, Women’s College), Prof. Nishat Fatima (University Librarian) and Dr. M. Athar Ansari (Department of Anesthesiology, JNMC) graced the occasion with their presence.

Welcoming the guests, Provost of the hall, Prof Saira Mehnaz said highlighted the illustrious life and contributions of Begum Sultan Jahan, the first Chancellor of the university.

She said that the students presented a number of musical performances, including the folk and traditional music events like Ghazal, Nazm, Qawwali and contemporary Bollywood numbers during the hall fest, “Intisaar”, and the resident members of the hall participated in these activities with great fervor and enthusiasm.

The other literary and cultural events organized during the fest, included extempore, spelling bee, solo and duet singing, graffiti, rangoli making, debate, Baitbaazi, open mic, food without fire, paper dressing, makeup, group dance and fashion show.

The sports activities held during the fest included events like 100m race, relay race, Table Tennis, Carrom, Tug of War, Basketball, Chess, Lemon Race, Udi Patang and 3-Legged Race.

The 2022 edition of Begum Sultan Jahan Hall Magazine was released by the chief guest, Mr. Mohammad Imran.

Earlier, the fest was inaugurated on March 11 by the chief guest, AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, in presence of the guest of honour, Prof Naima Khatoon, Principal, Women’s College.

Prof. Mohammad Gulrez gave an insightful speech on history of women’s education in India highlighting the contributions of Sheikh Abdullah, founder of Abdullah Hall and Begum Sultan Jahan, who patronized his efforts.

Wardens Dr. Deoshree Akhouri, Dr. Nighat Rasheed, Dr. Nazia Tabassum, Dr. Farheen Anjum, Dr. Shazia Fazli, Dr. Shyna Saif and Dr. Sameena Ahmad, along with the Senior Hall Ms. Samra Hashim and other hall monitors and members of student bodies played an important role in the successful organization of the annual fest.
